No one without children on a day to day basis will ever realize the amount of energy it takes to make a phone call, go wait in line, fill out paperwork, buy groceries, like a stay at home mom. IF you are lucky you might be dealing with another mom or at least a part time stay at home mom who feels your pain and tries to make it easier on you. Such is the case with my visit to the DMV. I went in the latter part of the day only to find the line for “No Appointment” was longer than any line I had seen before. I prepared for the worst because it is the DMV and they don’t really cater to small children with toys and other gadgets to pass the time. To my surprise and delight after explaining what was going to happen to my eldest, things were going pretty smooth. He remained close to the stroller while I fumbled around in my bag for something to give his sister so she wouldn’t try to escape.

Fast forward 45 minutes and we have made it through the line and been given a number. Things started to go down hill from here. Suddenly both kids wanted to run around and take turns pushing each other in the stroller.

I did try to keep them entertained but I didn’t have a lot to work with and frankly I was done waiting. My daughter being a “Screamer” started vocalizing her disinterest in the afternoons activities (insert rude looks here). Her screams then turn into cries as I try to keep her from wandering off. My only hope at this time was to put her in the stroller and hope that my number comes up and fast.

No sooner than I have her belted when a woman working a desk at the DMV is eyeing me. She’s mouthing something, I look behind me. I mouth, ‘Excuse me?’. Holy crap, I think she just said, ‘Lets get you out of here.’ I felt like a kid skipping school as I pocketed my number (still far from being called G272) and made my way over to my new hero.
