In case it’s not abundantly obvious I’m a bit of a grinch. Please don’t take it personally, it’s not you, it’s me. I thought I would save any holiday related rants until after readers had enjoyed there festivities so as not to seem like a party pooper. I do hope everyone enjoys their holiday, however they celebrate.

This year my grinchiness was in full swing with life as I once knew it falling to pieces, friends having troubles, family having troubles and of course the economy, the nation having troubles.

So I welcome the change of the new year, let’s make it a good one. We’ve got one fantastic change in leadership that is like a large bandage on the emotional scars our previous administration left us with over the last eight years.  read more »

Tales from the adjustable bed*: Farewell to Maternity Clothes

After having my first child I seem to recall the extra pregnancy weight falling off rather quickly. At one point in my final days of my second pregnancy I was battling the sort of senioritis or ‘over-it’ feeling you get at the end and I made a list of all the things I was looking forward to doing after I got done being pregnant. It was a fun list to make and one item I remember that was more towards the top of the list was getting rid of my maternity clothes.

Then September 2nd rolls around, my son and I are snuggling in the hospital and I make a list again. What I’m going to do when I get home, I grab that pad of hospital paper and the pen and begin jotting down all sorts of things. Once again I excitedly jot down, “Get rid of maternity clothes!!!” I was just hating them at the end, most of them are not as comfortable or attractive as good ‘ol regular clothes.  read more »

Not long ago I was ‘lucky’ enough to be embroiled in some Mama Drama. I’m about the least dramatic, open book, comfortable with confrontation, honest kinda gal you could ever bump into. A mom stirred up some drama, I was open and honest with all parties involved and it boiled over. The timing was bad, I was quite pregnant and in no mood for the junior high school type antics that were flying. I felt hurt, sad, disappointed. I was not entirely innocent - I wrote a post, on here, that offended a mom. I take responsibility for my words, then, now, in the future.

At the time all of this was going on something occurred to me about the way (women in particular) people use gossip, secrets, etc. like a sort of social currency that they can use to higher their status with a given other friend(s).  read more »

Tales from the adjustable bed: Nurses ~ the good, the bad and the ugly

This is less about nurses then it is about communication. Specifically, small talk, chit chat, jibber jabber. The kind of, ‘how’s the weather’ conversations you have with a new stylist, the dentist, etc.
While delivering my son I got to know a variety of different nurses. Their species isn’t unfamiliar to me, I spent some time in hospitals in 2001 when I was (after a month of biopsies) diagnosed with cancer but that’s a whole other story. In any case, nurses, I’ve dealt with their kind bunches.
So on this visit I found it funny that the three that most stood out could be classified simply as the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  read more »
